Strawberry Matcha Latte (Printable)

A refreshing layered drink combining sweet strawberry puree with earthy matcha and creamy milk.

# What You Need:

→ Strawberry Layer

01 - 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
02 - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
03 - 2 tablespoons water

→ Matcha Layer

04 - 2 teaspoons matcha green tea powder
05 - 1/4 cup hot water (175°F)

→ Milk Layer

06 - 1 cup milk of choice (dairy or plant-based)
07 - 1/2 cup ice cubes

# How To Make It:

01 - Combine strawberries, sugar, and water in a small saucepan. Mash lightly and heat for 2-3 minutes until strawberries soften and become syrupy. Allow to cool slightly, then blend until completely smooth.
02 - Sift matcha powder into a small bowl. Pour in hot water and whisk vigorously using a bamboo whisk or milk frother until fully dissolved and frothy, about 30 seconds.
03 - Divide the cooled strawberry puree evenly between two tall glasses, pouring about 1/4 cup into each.
04 - Place ice cubes on top of the strawberry layer in each glass.
05 - Slowly pour milk over the ice, tilting the glass slightly to maintain the distinct layers.
06 - Carefully pour the matcha mixture over the milk layer to create a beautiful three-tiered presentation. Stir thoroughly before drinking to combine all flavors.

# Expert Suggestions:

01 -
  • The way the sweet strawberry balances against earthy matcha is absolute magic, like they were always meant to be together
  • It comes together in ten minutes flat but looks like something you would pay eight dollars for at a fancy cafe
  • You can make it with whatever milk you have in your fridge, and nobody needs to know you did not plan ahead
02 -
  • Pour each layer slowly over the back of a spoon because dumping it in ruins the whole gradient effect that makes this drink special
  • If your matcha has clumps no matter how much you whisk, try sifting it first or using a small mesh strainer
  • The strawberry puree can be made ahead and kept in the fridge for up to three days, which basically means you can have these whenever you want
03 -
  • Strain the strawberry puree through a fine mesh sieve if you want it completely smooth, though I personally do not mind the little bits of strawberry
  • A bamboo whisk is traditional for matcha but a battery powered milk frother works just as well and takes zero arm strength
